Dream Building
PAA hopes to launch new operation - "Pawnee Multi-Cultural Arts Center"

The Dream

The dream for Pani Arts Association to have its own building is one that is multi-faceted. Next year, 2009 we will celebrate 10 years as a successful non-profit who has taught many community members skills that are useful for them to be self-sufficient and providers for their families. We have done this in spaces that were free, but not exclusive to the organization's needs. We can accomplish so much more for our talented members of our community if the space we see in the Old West building could be utilized by our organization. Our vision is to create the "Pawnee Multi-Cultural Arts Center." We imagine a gallery, gift store, studio space for pottery, sculpturing, fine arts, carpentry & cabinet making, and cloth/Native construction projects.

We are a professional team of Pani Arts members and are confident that we can achieve our dreams. Click here to see the draft proposal.

The Building

Description of the Old West Building, 521 Sixth Street, Pawnee, OK (Click here to see the building specs.) This building is ideal for the proposed Pawnee Multi-Cultural Arts Center. The building was well kept by the previous owner Terry Funkhouser and is now owned by his widow Karen. Main/Ground Floor. The main store floor has around 20' tall ceilings with decorative metal panels throughout. The back area has room for studio space. This floor is open and holds space for many business and project areas and activities. It can be partitioned to serve multiple clients under one roof. Loft Area. There is a loft area that has a corner freight elevator. The loft is big enough for a large studio that may require heavy equipment (example: Tee shirt press and dryer). First Floor Apartment. There is a one bedroom unit on the main floor level that has a small kitchenette, laundry area, shower/bath room, and living room. Basement Level. The basement is well designed for cabinet making. There is garage door access to the alley from the basement, a stain room, wood shop, office area, ½ bath room, supply room and spacious wood shelving storage area for lumber inventory. There is a stairway from the basement to the store showroom floor, and the freight elevator that goes up to the loft. There is a second elevator that goes to the store and the top floor living quarters. Second Floor Living Quarters. There is a living quarters on the top (2nd) floor that has two bed rooms, two bath rooms (one with laundry), open living room/dining and kitchen area with all oak trim and oak ceiling. The top floor has a stairway to the street, at the front of the building. There is also a vintage elevator beautifully restored.
